The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am Golf Tournament is looked forward to by golf enthusiasts from all over whether they come in person to see the tournament or are watching on TV. I think the TV watchers from across the country are enthralled by the scenery as much as the golf! As realtors we welcome all the many visitors that come to the Monterey Peninsula at this time and celebrate golf as one of our treasured sports.
I’ve gone to the AT&T Tournament for years - even while I lived in San Francisco. I guess that’s when I started falling in love with the Monterey Peninsula and dreamed of actually living here some day. At that time my husband and his golf buddies would come down and I would tag along. I loved watching the golf, but frankly was more excited about seeing the celebrities up close and personal. This was 25 years ago when Clint was playing along with Don Johnson, Michael Bolton, Don Cheadle and later celebs like Ray Romano and Chris O’Donnell joined the group.
Last year they changed the whole structure and ousted the celebrities in favor of attracting the top golfers to compete. The event has become one of eight Signature events on the PGA tour schedule offering a $20 million purse. Rory McIlroy was the winning golfer this year securing his 27th PGA Tour victory.
The weather this year was “Crosby weather” referring to the rainy weather and the tournament’s origins as the “Crosby Clambake”. All this started with Bing getting a tournament together for his friends which has now transformed into an incredible event that brings thousands of visitors to the Monterey Peninsula and a $20 M reward for the victor.
As in years past Carmel Realty Company threw an amazing party for our clients taking place in an estate overlooking the 12th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Links. Every agent was allowed to invite a few of their golf-loving clients and we all were thrilled to watch the golf and enjoy delicious food and drink - regardless of the rainy weather on Saturday.
